April 2 - Edo-Tokyo Museum, Nippon Budokan Hall
A map showing in red the areas of the city destroyed by fire in the aftermath of the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923. The Imperial Palace, just above and left of center, was spared. But the shitamachi, including the area where my hotel is located, was devastated. The photographs on display in this section of the museum show the destruction to be on the level of what we saw after the bombing of Hiroshima.
